One of La Porte’s Architectural Jewels from “yesteryear” is the Historic Rumely Building on Michigan Avenue, one block from the Courthouse Square, and across from City Hall. It has been the home of the annual Artists Gallery Walk that has been held there for thirteen years in conjunction with the Sunflower Fair. It is always on the third weekend in September.
How the Artists Gallery Walk Works:
The Artists Gallery Walk begins with works of art being placed in the Rumely. The pieces on display are all art in different media from watercolor to acrylic, paper, ink and various sculptural materials plus graphic art.
As guests come in, they are given the chance to register. Those who choose to register will be given a ballot to select their favorite work. All works of art will be numbered, and after the people walk through and view the art, they will be able to select their favorite work.
After the guests select their favorite work, they can drop their ballot off at the receptionist’s desk. At the end of the day, “visitor’s choice” ballots will be tallied. Artists will be recognized if chosen.
If you are a visitor:
The Artists Gallery Walk is free to enter and a lovely addition to the larger Sunflower Fair. Food and drink is discouraged within the viewing area, and all children are welcome as well to view the art of many mediums. The exhibiting artists are representatives of La Porte area artists who show their work in galleries from our immediate area, in Chicago and New York.
If you are an artist:
1. email firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, address, phone # and email address.
2. you must prepare to submit 3 recent works of art to the jury committee
3. on receipt of your email an application form will be mailed to you
Exhibiting space is limited so let us hear from you as soon as possible so we can email you an application. The number of participating artists determines how many paintings or works of art
